Last week we received the very sad news that Pauline Tomlinson had passed away after a short stay in Hospital.
Pauline was both a formidable bowler and a legend of Ladies bowls in South Yorkshire over many years, proudly representing Yorkshire and South Yorkshire Ladies many times. A true competitor, and much valued member of both MBC and Meersbrook Park BC for many years, who will definitely be sadly missed by the members of both clubs.
Our sincere condolences, love and kindest thoughts are with all her family at this sad time. We also share these sentiments with her many friends and teammates that she gained in her long bowling career, and with everyone who knew Pauline at Meersbrook Park BC, past and present who received the wisdom of a lesson or two from her on the greens over the years.
We will update you with Funeral arrangements as and when they are available.
Fly high Pauline. X
Happy New Year Everyone! The very best wishes to you all for a happy & healthy 2023!
Please note that your 2023 membership subscriptions are now due for renewal. As we all know, energy prices are at an unprecedented high, and we are not immune to the effects of this. Therefore please see details of the new membership subscription prices, as passed at the AGM, in the attached image and on notice boards in the Club.
Please remember that subscription payment by instalments may be available by request, as per Bye Law 2 (A copy of the Bye Laws is available in the club and on the website).
Prompt payment of 2023 subscriptions will be very much appreciated as always, especially in light of the essential electrical work we have had to have done last month and this.
Thanks very much to you all for your continued support!

Last Monday both teams again enjoyed victories: Our A Team beat Ecclesfield A 7-1 at MBC whilst our B Team went one better by beating Crookes Social away 8-0. There are no league games this week due to the Bank Holiday however our A Team are in action this Friday evening in the Team Doubles Competition taking on Abbey A which is to be played on Herdings, with a 6.30pm start.
In the Sheffield & Hallamshire League our teams suffered different fates whilst both had problems fielding a side due to holidays and injuries. The A Team ran out 8-2 winners at home to Bradfield B with the B Team losing away at Richmond 7-3. It has to be noted that it was a great effort from both teams under the circumstances with thanks to those who stepped in to help out. This week our B Team are at home to Colley Park whilst the A Team faces a difficult game away to Dronfield Woodhouse.
Staying with the Sheffield & Hallamshire League, it was the first round of the Telegraph Cup with the A Team winning a close match against Whitely Woods A played at Richmond Park; MBC winning 148 – 135.
Our ladies got their season underway with a great team effort on a very quick & tricky green at Whitely Woods, eventually running out 6-3 winners in a match which was closer than the score suggests. Hopefully the good form will continue this Wednesday evening at MBC with Ecclesfield providing the opposition. Our ladies continued their fine start to the season with a 7-2 victory at home to Ecclesfield which at times was not as easy as the score suggests, particularly in the earlier stages of the game. This week there is no game as it is a bye week.
Our Vet’s enjoyed a couple of victories last week, firstly winning 6-4 away at Crookes Social on Wednesday afternoon. In the Presto Doubles on Friday they made it a 5 from 5 winning start with a more comfortable win against Crookes Social, this time on home turf by 10-0. This Wednesday our Vet’s are at home Vs Wadsley House A, whilst on Friday they are away to Crookesmoor A, both games starting at 1.30pm.
On Saturday the big news was Yvonne Hamilton’s fine 21-6 winning performance for the C Team who after a slow start ran out 8-4 winners. Some people may not be aware but Yvonne won the sweepstake with her victory! The B Team followed with a 5.00pm start against Crookesmoor A and ran out comfortable winners with an 11-1 score line in their favour. Last but certainly not least our A Team enjoyed a decent 9-3 win on a tricky Laycocks.
At the time of writing, it is unclear what the fixtures are due this coming Saturday to seeking agreements regarding start times due to the South Yorkshire Cup, but the best picture of the situation is as follows: The C Team is away at Ecclesfield with a 1.30pm start. The B Team play Abbey A in the SY Cup at 10:30 am at Millhouses, then play Stocksbridge Friendship away at 14:00 proposed start. The A team only have a SY cup game this Saturday as Thurgoland B have cancelled the league fixture. So the A team will take on Treeton at Carlton Park in Barnsley at 14:00.
Support is always welcome! UTC!

MBC BOWLS ROUND UP – W/E 23/04/2022
Last Monday both teams enjoyed 6-2 victories: A Team winning at Abbey B whilst the B Team beat Ecclesfield B at home. This week, the A Team are at home to Ecclesfield A whilst the B Team play away at Crookes Social.
In the Sheffield & Hallamshire League, both our teams tasted defeat with the A Team going down 7-3 away at Catcliffe whilst the B Team took a bit of a hammering away at Crookesmoor going down 9-1. Both teams will be hoping for an improvement this Tuesday with the A Team facing Bradfield B at home with the B Team visiting Richmond Park, both games 6.30pm start.
Our ladies got their season underway with a great team effort on a very quick & tricky green at Whitely Woods, eventually running out 6-3 winners in a match which was closer than the score suggests. Hopefully the good form will continue this Wednesday evening at MBC with Ecclesfield providing the opposition.
Our Vets Team also faced Whitely Woods earlier in the day in what was again at times a very close game but home advantage saw MBC run out 8-2 winners to maintain their fine start to the season. Likewise for the Presto Doubles on Friday when they take on Crookes Social A following another good win last week, this time against Nether Edge recording an 8-2 win.
Result & performance of the season so far for MBC was thanks to the A Team in Saturday’s Jackson League match against Bradfield A. Considering how close these teams have been over recent seasons it will have raised a few eyebrows to see MBC win the match 12-0. This coming Saturday they are away at Laycocks when some familiar faces will be in opposition.
Our B Team had a good win at Crookes Social eventually winning 7-5 in the Telegraph Cup. Not always the easiest of greens to play but they are on more familiar surroundings with a home game vs Crooksmoor A which starts at 5.00pm.
First up on Saturday however at 1.30pm our C Team will be looking to get back to winning ways in the Fitzwilliam Shield against Millhouses A after losing 8-4 away at Richmond last week.
Support is always welcome!

Last Monday saw the Social League get underway with an impressive start to the new
season for our A Team who beat Wadsley House A at home in the A Division 8-0. Captain ‘Chaos’ Clark skippered the side to an impressive first victory. Debutant Dave ‘Great Gambini Jnr’ Gamban got off to an impressive start in the doubles with Badge, with Carling Darling carrying ‘Peg Leg’ Clarke through another victory in the other doubles game. ‘Chaos’ says all the singles were decidedly average!
Meanwhile after relegation to the B Division, our B Team started their season with a 4-4
draw away at Norfolk Park. The team were grateful for big wins from Scott Claxton in the
singles and Mel & Ian Hobson in the doubles to ensure the aggregate win, ensuring a share
of the points against a very tricky opposition who played well on the night.
This week sees the B Team at home on Monday vs Herdings, whilst the A Team faces a tricky fixture
away match at Catcliffe; both games starting at 6.00pm.
Tuesday 12th April sees the start of the Sheffield & Hallamshire League. Our A Team face a
challenging start facing Bradfield A away, with our new look B Team at home to Stocksbridge
Friendship.
The Vets Team play their first Wednesday Union Street Cup fixture on Wednesday 13th April,
starting at 1.30pm away at Ridgeway. They’ll be fit and ready to go after two impressive
games in the Presto Doubles, in which they beat Mosborough MW A at home & Richmond
Park away both to the same 10-0 score line. This coming Friday they will be hoping for a
repeat performance at home to Nether Edge A, starting at 1.30pm.
Finally, this week sees the start to the Parks Saturday League for our club, which sees two home games
on our green. With the A Team away at Maltby in the Jackson League, our B Team takes on
Bradfield B at 1.30pm in the Telegraph Cup. Following on from that, our C Team hosts
Hollinsend in the Fitzwilliam Shield with a 5.00pm start.
Your support is always welcome!
